Gordon is the senior member of the engine family. He is the fastest and most powerful express engine on the Fat Controller's railway - and he knows it. He is a pompous, bossy and arrogant steam engine who thinks he knows everything. But Gordon is goodhearted and always willing to forgive and use his superior strength to help smaller engines out of trouble.
Did you know? Awdry named Gordon after a boy named Gordon Chapman, the son of the local porter. Chapman was a rude boy who lived and played on the Awdry's street when Christopher was a child.
