Hosepipes and Shunters is the second story in the 1990 Annual.
Plot
While Mavis is away for repairs, Percy is called to an emergency at the harbour. Meanwhile, at Ffarquhar, the stationmaster calls Terence to help with the shunting. At the quarry, Toby has to take on water, but the column had been taken away. Luckily for him, a hosepipe is connected to a tap in the quarryman's restroom and Toby can get a drink.

Trivia
- The events of this story pick up at where the story Bulstrode from Toby, Trucks and Trouble left up, with Percy leaving the yard and leaving Toby alone to manage. Some of the dialouge in the beginning is near to identical with Bulstrode's opening.
- This story was published in 1990, but Mavis would not appear in the television series until her titular episode one year later. So, her being mentioned in this story predates her introduction in the television series.
